Arcania: Gothic 4 is a spin-off installment set in the Gothic series, and the first one developed by a company other than Piranha Bytes. ArcaniA. War covers the southern islands until it finally reaches the idyllic isle of Feshyr. Arcania: Gothic IV is looking like a game that would entice even the most jaded, over-Oblivioned Crust-Dwarf into a long, deep. This is an unofficial guide to the Arcania: Gothic 4 game. You will here a very detailed description of all quests (main and some less important, side quests).

Arcania: Gothic 4-Test: Very promising, only little kept – No real goth more?

11.10.2010 at 10:01 hArcania: Gothic 4 is to continue the popular rolling game series duly. The test shows, however, that Spellbound misses the target. In the run-up many promises were made. Today, it is shown that only a little was held.

After three years, it’s time for Gothic fans to get new food. Arcania: Gothic 4 promises more than it does in the end. There are simply too many things that the Gothic series used to make, so the name would be justified. Apart from this, however, the rolling game also has to deal with other problems. However, if you are looking for a solid roll-up game to fill the cold autumn end, Jowood’s adventure can be a bit closer.

Few bugs:

Just the one who played the predecessor Gothic 3 was certainly skeptical about the bow freedom of Arcania, because Jowood proved in the past rather a bad hand. Developer Spellbound, however, delivers a pleasingly error-free game. During our test period some bugs occurred, but we did not experience any serious problems, such as crashes, defective gameplays, unsolvable quests or the like. Arcania has more optical flaws, such as missing textures or that the hair styling of the characters are duplicated. Only in the game are the invisible barriers, which should prevent your hero from reaching certain areas in the game world. If you enter into one of these, your protege hovers partly in the air,

Sounding:

Apart from a few exceptions, the language edition of Arcania is convincing. The dialogues are often as rough and impudent as you are accustomed to by the series, and the speakers usually meet the right tone. But what a bit annoying: the characters are often repeated, for example, the hero repeatedly attacks the statement of his opposite, which makes the dialogues here and there a bit monotonous. The synchronization of many secondary characters does not convince, however, on the whole line, but at least the main characters can be heard through the bank. In the main roles you can recognize some familiar or Gothic-accustomed voices: Gerrit Schmidt-Foss, for example, the hero of Arcania talks, among others, Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio.

Graphics:

Developer Spellbound, the game world graphically partially very impressive in the scene. The textures look pretty and plastic, like the walls. The light and shadow effects transform the sceneries into coherent images and most character models are credible and detailed. This way, Arcania can definitely keep up with the current competition, provided you have the right hardware. Because the considerable graphics push the hardware requirements up, so that Arcania jerks even on powerful computers here and there.

Help functions:

On minimap, quest markers, damage announcements and such things, Gothic renounced so far, offered rather a complex rolling game, into which one had to fist oneself. Spellbound is now trying to make Arcania much easier to get into, but at the same time make the hard-spirited Gothic fans as happy – a painstaking balancing act. If desired, Arcania makes life easier for you: minimap and quest markers help you orientate. Opposition, damage and life displays facilitate the fighting uncommonly. If you want to try alchemy, you can help with the search for important plants: plants that stand in the way, simply disappear, so that ingredients are easier to find. However, the developers do not provide all these support, but offer it as an option. Who his old-known, Stubborn Gothic, all these points simply turn off. Here, Spellbound has clearly made the right decision.

Recognition:

Although Spellbound relies on a new nameless hero, Arcania offers a lot of re-recognition, as some well-known characters are back in the game. Whether Diego, Milten, Gorn or the old nameless hero, the guys are recognizable at first glance, even if some plays an unusual role. Even shady characters from the predecessors are there, whose importance for the story becomes clear late. The rough sound in the game world is also well done. Many types do not take a sheet to the mouth, it is drunk and smoked. Spellbound does not always match the sound perfectly, but the rough playing world is always convincing. These factors are also very important for Arcania, as some of the characteristics that make up a Gothic are lost.

Good card and minimap:

The map in Arcania is certainly not perfect, but offers some practical features. Exclamation marks show you where questrelevant persons are. When you select a job in your Questlog, the associated exclamation mark will light up red, making it easier to find your way to it. In addition, you can set your own waypoint, which is then displayed as a blue X on the map. However, Arcania allows you to set only one waypoint. The Minimap shows important quest targets as small white circles, as well as all the symbols that can be seen on the large map. So every roll player, whether beginner or professional, should be found without problems in the game world.
