Downwell will be sold physically on Switch, Special Reserve Games have announced. It will be available to order starting September 17.

Only 5,000 physical copies of Downwell for Switch will be produced.

Downwell creator leaves Nintendo, becomes an indie dev again

It was roughly a year ago that we heard about Downwell creator Ojiro Fumoto joining Nintendo. That relationship didn’t last terribly long, with Fumoto confirming that he’s already gone from the company. He’s returning to his roots and becoming an indie developer once again.

The good news is that Fumoto left on his own terms and the two sides still have an amicable relationship. He wrote on Twitter that working at Nintendo was “an incredible experience”.

I was working at Nintendo for most of 2018 but I quit at the end of the year to pursue being an indie dev again. Working there was an incredible experience but ultimately I found my passion to simply be making a thing I want to make.
So yeah, I'll get working on that this year!

Downwell launches January 31 on Switch

Special Reserve Games has revealed an extended partnership with Devolver Digital that will result in three new physical releases. Downwell, The Messenger, and Minit will all be sold physically. Thus far, the latter two have only been available as digital downloads, with the same having been previously announced for Downwell.

No word yet on when the physical versions are launching, but we’ll keep you updated. They’ll be ready to go sometime in 2019.

Downwell confirmed for Switch, will support tate mode

Downwell is coming to Switch, Devolver Digital and Moppin revealed during today’s Japanese Nintendo Direct. It wasn’t in the overseas version of the presentation, but expect a worldwide release.

Devolver has also followed up with confirmation that tate mode will be supported.

Devolver Digital has been releasing a lot more of its games on Nintendo Switch lately, as well as original fare like the breathtaking platformer GRIS. And it looks to continue this trend in 2019 as it’s bringing one of its old-school favorites to the platform.

In a humorous tweet posted today, the publisher confirmed that its shooting game Downwell would arrive on the system starting on January 31, 2019. Though it didn’t confirm a price point, it’s likely to be around $4.99.

The game originally debuted on PlayStation 4, PS Vita, mobile platforms and PC back in 2016, putting you in control of a character that journeys downward into deep levels, shooting enemies that pop up beneath him and occasionally snagging helpful power-ups like lasers and shotguns.

Step into precariously placed shops and buy some helpful items or level up between levels to battle well-dwelling monsters and uncover hidden caves filled with riches and relics. No two trips down the well are ever the same!

• The Amazing Gunboots – The fashionable and lethal Gunboots allow players to unleash a torrent of firepower on the nasty creatures dwelling in the well and slow your descent with each shot.

We figured Downwell’s digital release would be announced at some point, considering it’s getting a physical version very soon.

The game is good arcade-style fun with chiptunes and fun visuals to match. Plus, you should be able to play it vertically as well, though we’re still waiting for confirmation on that feature.
