An alternative is to skip the merit tasks and just pass 2 exams, which will give you exactly the right number of demerits. This is the simplest way to. For Magical Diary on the PC, GameFAQs has 26 achievements.

Chapter 3 Jewelry and I swear it's not a 'date'!

The next evening Rosanna hung around after her Black magic class to speak with Professor Potsdam. Her account of what happened matched up with Grabiner's. She also thought that Mr Lattier was the culprit despite there being no real evidence either way. This put Rosanna's mind at rest, Professor Potsdam was a neutral third person to the situation and a person who could be trusted.

'Oh Poppet I'm sorry that Professor Quill has been causing so much trouble, if you ever need to talk about things I am always here to help.' Professor Potsdam said whilst rolling up her pink sleeves preparing to fix a chair with magic that a student broke during the last lesson.

'Aren't you going to do anything about him?' asked Rosanna. She was the headmistress after all.

'Well dear being he hasn't harmed you physically there's not much I can do but I'm sure that husband of yours will address the issue.' She replied cheerfully.

'That's what I'm worried about.' Mumbled Rosanna.

'Oh I almost forgot you need to talk to Minnie Cochran -the class president. You both need to sort a fundraising event or the likes along with the first and third years presidents and treasures that is, to support the Halloween feast and dance this year. I'm sure you bright young girls will think of something suitable. Now dear off you pop. I'll see you next lesson.'

Come Sunday Rumours were going around that Professor Quill and Professor Grabiner where caught fighting. There were all sorts of stories going about that they had a fist fight and had a violent, horrible magical duel though realistically the most likely story was that they just got into an verbal argument. Various students pestered Rosanna asking about what really happened, she was honest and told everyone that she had no idea what happened and pretended to not know why the two professors had a falling out to begin with.

It wasn't until the middle of the next week that Rosanna was able to speak to Minnie when she bumped into her in a corridor.

'So any ideas what we could do for fundraising?' enquired Rosanna.

'I do in fact!' said Minnie absent-mindedly playing with her long hair; 'I think we should make autumn themed jewellery and sell it at the local mall.'

'That's good but wont the materials like beads and such be way over the budget?'

'Nope! I already have lots of tools and equipment for making necklaces and bracelets –it's a hobby of mine really and so I know where to buy the cheapest materials and I know several easy spells that I can teach you so we can make them without much effort.'

Rosanna grinned this could be a really good project to do and a great distraction.

'Sure thing! Sounds like a fantastic idea then we can sell them the weekend before Halloween. We should have plenty of time to get ready. This could be fun!'

'Ok Rosanna meet me next week in the common room and I can start teaching you the basics. I will go and tell the other presidents as well, see if they want to get involved or if they are doing their own fundraising thing.'

'Alight I'll see you then.' Rosanna smiled and they parted ways. Minnie went on to her White magic class whist Rosanna decided to head to the library to study.

Rosanna avoid both Professor Quill and Professor Grabiner all week . She knew that she would need to start going to lessons again but for this week she stuck with studying in the library using Ellen's lesson notes to help. Virginia offered her notes as well but they were such a disorganized and messy scribble that Rosanna soon gave up trying to decipher them and stuck with Ellen's tidy, well written notes.

Early Friday evening Rosanna was sitting in the library reading 'A beginners guide to crafting gifts' the book had a lot of information about how to make jewellery, woodwork and the likes, using magic to help. She was so engrossed in the book that she didn't realize Grabiner was there until he thumped a book down on her desk.

'Why haven't you been attending lessons?'

She looked up at him startled and avoided his gaze.

'Well..I just didn't feel like confronting Professor Quill mostly. So I've been studying in here instead.'

He looked down at the book she was reading.

'Yes I see, that book is very relevant to your lessons I'm sure.' The droll sarcasm in his voice was evident.

'Oh this? This is because Minnie and I are going to make Jewellery to sell at a fundraising stall for the Halloween feast and dance.' She smiled at him politely.

'Interesting idea I suppose.'

'Well it was Minnie's idea really. She does it as a hobby anyway and so she's going to teach me how to make them and then we plan to sell them at the local mall the weekend before.'

He simply nods in response.

'Well I expect you to attend your lessons, both mine and Professor Quills next week otherwise I will start giving out de-merits.'

Ran online auto pots 2020. She nodded; 'Yes Sir…' she hesitated a little and then asked him; 'Oh is it true? That you and Professor Quill got into a fight?'

He sighed and pulled up a chair to sit down next to her.

'I would have hardly called it a fight but yes I did have a few choice words to say to him about how he has been interfering with you…with our lives.'

'You know there's a rumour going about that you punched him in the face.' She grinned, a playful look on her face as his face twitched into a sly smile.

'I must admit I was tempted but alas I did not. If he ever speaks anything to you out of order I want you to inform me right away.' He looked at her with soft gaze his brown eyes looking directly into hers. She felt her cheeks flush as he did. 'Promise me this; if anything is wrong in the future you'll come to me directly and not hide anything.'

'I promise. I am glad that you where honest with me about it all and I promise to be more trusting in the future.'

His face relaxed and he looked around. There were a few other students in the library but they were out of earshot and busy with their own studies.

'H…Hieronymous could we perhaps hang out some time? To you know just talk and that on less serious stuff for a change?' She asked timidly.

He scoffed and raised an eyebrow; 'What like a date?'

'Not…not like a date…Just..Just as friends.' She stuttered a little as she spoke embarrassed; 'I just thought that it would be nice to get to know the real you a little more.' She looked away and heard him sigh heavily.

'I suppose that would be ok.' He replied softly. Her face lit up.

'Really!? Where would you like to go?'

'How about we just stick…' He paused and thought about it.

'You know what? I know of a Magical café a short drive away we won't be bothered by other students as it's not near the mall like the magical restaurant there. I'm assuming Sunday lunch time is ok? '

She grinned like a cat that's got the cream unable to contain her happiness. He frowned at her.

'Don't get any ideas Miss Gale this it isn't a date. I don't 'go out' with students.'

'I know. I know. I just think it'll be nice to go some place outside the academy grounds that other students don't generally know about. Makes a change.' She smiled sweetly. He rose to his feet and prepared to leave.

'Very well, meet me at the gates on Sunday at eleven sharp. I shall leave you to carry on with your so-called studying Miss Gale.'

Come Sunday morning Rosanna got up bright and early, showered, ate and then asked Ellen and Virginia what she should wear. Wearing her school robes didn't seem appropriate after all.

'Well I guess it's going to be pretty chilly so you probably just want a cute pair jeans and a shirt, with a jumper or something.' Said Ellen peering into Rosanna's wardrobe.

'Are you sureee this isn't a date?!' Jeered Virginia.

'Not it's not. Well not really at least Grabiner stated clearly it's not.' Rosanna replied picking up a simple pale blue blouse.

'Seems like a date to me, taking you out to a café away from the students.' Virginia grinned cheekily.

'I wish.' Rosanna blurted out; 'Well I mean you know… it would be nice if it was but I don't believe he thinks of it that way.' She shrugged selecting out a barely worn pair of dark blue jeans.

'hhmm perhaps you're getting to him, he never behaves the way he does to you around other students.' Pointed out Ellen.

'Well we did get married even if it wasn't because of love, he still swore to protect me.'

They chatted for a while before Rosanna needed to go down to the gates. She was wearing the Jeans and shirt she had picked out before and had put a couple of flower covered clips in her hair to keep her cyan fringe out of her eyes. She found Grabiner waiting for her by the gate; he wasn't wearing his hat for a change and was dressed in black trousers and a dark brown shirt rather than his normal wizard robes. He still dawned on his cloak however.

He indicated that they should go to a small car park at the back of the academy. She originally assumed they would use the school shuttle buses but as they entered the car park she realized that this wasn't the case. There were a few parked cars other than the shuttles and he led her to a simple black car, it appeared to be some sort of hatchback but she wasn't sure as she didn't really know anything about cars. He opened the passenger door to let her in and then hopped on around to get into the driver's seat. Once they were ready he started up the car and drove on out of the gates down the long winding hillside road to towards the main road.

'So um, is this your car?' she asked.

'Yes I've had it a while but I don't generally use it that often as a rule.'

'That's understandable being you don't spend much time out side of the Academy I guess.'

'I used to.' He sighed; 'I guess I don't bother to try and socialise with people much anymore. I generally don't feel the need.'

'But surely you must get lonely?' She blurted out the words before she could stop herself. They turned onto the main road and went left, the opposite way from where the school shuttle normally goes when they go to the mall.

'Not really. I have my work and books and constantly annoying students to deal with. I don't need other people.'

Rosanna wanted to challenge that notion but she didn't want to make him angry so early in the day so she just shook her head and remained silent. They drove for a while in silence, until they entered a small village. They pulled up outside what appeared to be an old closed down store and they got out of the car. As they approached, the area shimmered and changed. It was magically hidden from the mundane but to people with magic it revealed its true form. It was a very pretty cottage style building with beautiful vines and flowers growing around it in full bloom despite it being close to winter. The name 'Madam Charm's Café' was on a large wooden board above the doorway. Inside the place was fairly large with old wooden tables and chairs, a cosy looking fire place –though not lit and Rosanna noted several witches and wizards sitting at various tables enjoying drinks and food. They sat down at a table by the window side. The day was chilly and dull but inside the café was bright and cheerful.

'This place is wonderful.' Said Rosanna awed whilst looking around; 'It's like it should belong in England not here in the states.'

'I believe that's the general idea. This place has its charm doesn't it?' He pulled open a menu and handed her one; 'Feel free to order whatever you want.'

Rosanna looked down at the menu, there was a lot of witch and wizard dishes, none of which she recognized, in the end she settled something she did know; a cheese and tomato Panini and a nice cup of tea. Once they both ordered they sat in an uncomfortable silence. Eventually Rosanna spoke deciding she shouldn't be wasting the time they had together.

'So um other than reading factual books, do you read any fiction?'

'Of course' He said the words like it was the most obvious fact In the world; ' I enjoy I wide range of novels; primarily from more classical writers such from Mark Twain to George Orwell and more modern like Stephen King and if I'm in a particularly light mood Terry Pratchett. I could list a few wizard authors as well but I seriously doubt you would know any of them.'

'Oh I love Terry Pratchett!' She replied smiling; 'Growing up the Discworld series was my absolute favourite!'

'I'm not all that surprised.' He replied drily; 'You do seem to have such a vivid imagination after all.'

She pulled a funny face and shrugged; 'I used to read a lot of classics as well, but with so much studding these days I don't get all that much time.'

'That's part of growing up our responsibilities take first place over more pleasurable activities.' As he spoke their food was delivered to the table Rosanna noted that Grabiner had ordered some sort of sandwich with his own cup of tea. They fell silent again whilst setting about eating their food.

'I noticed you don't attend Gym lessons very often.' He commented idly, Rosanna snorted and tried not to choke on the food, once she cleared her mouth she spoke;

'I eh don't really like doing all that many sports. Well rather sports don't like me, I used to be on a soccer team in high school but I just ended up falling over a lot.'

'Well you don't look like the most agile type I suppose.' he commented.

Walkthrough

'Do you –or did- you play any sports Hieronymous?'

He gave out a little laugh.

'Do I really seem like the type?'

She grinned in response.

'Well no but you asked me, and I doubt I hardly seem the 'type' as well.' They went on and talked about their general likes and dislikes of various things for a while. It was an enjoyable experience and Rosanna felt the weight of the stress from last few weeks being lifted of her shoulders. At the end of the day he was kind and funny in his own sarcastic way, he clearly had many great qualities about him that he hid under a layer of moodiness, abruptness and introversion.

Once they had finished they decided to go for a walk around the village. It was quaint but sparse and not all that far from another town that was apparently a wizard community. They didn't hold hands as they walked but kept up a good pace.

'So tell me about your father, he is a lord or something right?' Rosanna said out of the blue.

'My father; Aloysius Grabiner is the 16th Viscount Montague. He lives in England and I live here. That's all there is to it.'

'But you burn his letters? Why is that? I assume you don't get along?'

He grunted.

'He is not a pleasant man to deal with. He is my father, yes but he did not raise me or have much to do with my childhood. He only started to care for me when I grew up. I do my best to avoid talking to him. I had rather hoped he wouldn't have found out about our marriage but of course he did, secrets don't really happen in the magical community at the end of the day.'

'What about your mum?' she asked.

'My mother left when I was two years old. I haven't seen her since. Far as I know my father only married her so he could have an heir.' He sighed and they stopped walking.

'I'm sorry to hear that. It must have been a lonely childhood.'

'It was what I got used to.' He shrugged. That's when it hit her. This is one of the reasons why he is the way he is, why he always pushes people away. He was never really loved as a child. Raised by hired staff rather than parents, he had a lonely, heartless childhood and never knew anything different. Her heart leaped out to him with affection and pity at that moment. She tried to make sure her feelings didn't show as she knew that he was not the type of person that wanted pity he was too hardened and independent for that.

'I suppose we should be heading back. I am very glad that you agreed to spend time with me and talk with me openly today. It means a lot.' She was gentle as she spoke, even if this wasn't a date to him it felt like one to her. He didn't say anything but they started to head back through the village towards the car.

Once they got in the car Grabiner sighed. The sky was beginning to already get dark as the nights were drawing in earlier and there was a brisk chill to the air. They sat in silence for a little bit and Rosanna was trying to think of something to say when Grabiner reached out and gently grabbed her hand. She looked at him surprised but smiled. He squeezed her hand and let go, starting up the car and drove them back to the academy. He's done that twice now; held my hand…He looks a little like a nervous school child when he does. She stifled a giggle at that thought. Perhaps he is warming up to me after all. This man really is a mystery.

They eventually talked about other things and the day soon came to an end. They parted at the entrance to the academy. Rosanna headed off to her dorms to tell Ellen and Virginia about her pleasant 'date' with Grabiner.

The following week went smoothly. Professor Quill pretended like she didn't even exist in her lessons, which was fine by her. And she had a great time with Minnie making various bracelets, necklaces and earrings, decorated with autumn themed colours, leaf and pumpkin shaped beads. It wasn't long before Rosanna and Minnie had set up a stall at the Local Mall early Saturday morning. They had made posters for the stall and displayed out the Jewellery neatly. They were being supervised by a bored looking Professor Grabiner, They made sure to bring fold out chairs after what happened last time Rosanna helped at a fundraising stall. She had spent the entire day standing up that time and as a result made herself ill. To Rosanna that day had its good points though because Grabiner took her out for a revitalizing drink after to help her recover and it was then when she started to notice how handsome she thought he was.

There was a lot of interest at the stall from students and local shoppers and they were constantly kept busy; Rosanna took charge of the money whilst Minnie promoted sales. Come mid-afternoon Rosanna was busy refilling the table with some more necklaces from the boxes under the table, whilst there wasn't really many people about and Grabiner approached them and handed Rosanna a cup of tea in a throw-away cardboard cup and told Minnie to take a break and get herself a drink. Rosanna thanked him and took a sip. It had lots of milk and three sugars just the way she liked it.

'How did you know how I like it?'

'I noticed when we were at the café last week; you should probably cut back on the sugar by the way. It's not good for you.' Re replied, he also had a cup of his own and took a sip.

'Observant I see but what can I say I have a sweet tooth.' She gave him a sweet smile.

'Quite. I am glad to see the sales have been going well.'

'Yes, it's been going a lot better than planned; we'll have enough money to cover the Halloween event and enough to go towards something else, like next year's ball or something.' She says cheerfully. They chatted idly for a short while until Rosanna had to assist some more customers and Minnie returned with a cup of coffee. Grabiner wondered back to where he was reading a book and the afternoon flew by. They had sold enough that they decided it wasn't worth setting up stall again tomorrow as they had very little stock left.

For the next week Rosanna worked hard at preparing for the next exam, she was working on improving her casting speed of spells, figuring that being able to cast 'detect traps' and other basic spells quickly would be a good idea. When it came to the exam Friday afternoon she felt she was ready for anything but immensely nervous after what happened last time. She was teleported into the dungeon and a familiar voice from echoed around the room.

'This exam will test your mind as well as your magic. You simply need to solve the puzzles to reach the exits.'

Rosanna cast a 'light orb' while listing to the instructions and set about looking around the room right away, after careful examination she discovered that the room was empty apart from four panels on one wall. They was a symbol on each of the panels. One was shaped like a fire, one a drop of water, one looked like a collection of mountains and the last looked like a puff of wind. Oh so the four main elements she thought hmm so do I have to press them in order or something? After examining them further and trying to push in the panels at random and Idea popped into her head. She cast 'spark' onto the panel with the fire symbol and it lit up with a pale red glow. Ah ha! Well that's simple you just have to put each element on it. She cast 'breeze' on the wind panel and again it lit up –this time with a pale grey glow. Hmm what to do for earth? She looked around the room once again and noted there was a crack in the floor. Upon looking closer she could see that there was soil in the crack. She decided the easier thing to do was make the crack wider to get out some soil. She cast a tricky Red magic spell called 'shatter' one she had read and knew about but had never actually tried but thankfully it worked, and it caused the crack to split apart further into a massive hole. She had done far more damage than intended but it didn't really matter. She picked out some soil from under the rubble and poured it over the earth panel. It lit up a warm brown and she smiled to herself happy it worked. Now just for water. There's no water around and I don't know any spells to make water or anything like that…hhm wonder if general liquid would do? It all has some water in it right? She looked down at her left thumb, her off hand and then cast a mild 'cut' spell and made a small cut onto her thumb. She bit her lip and wiped some blood onto the last panel before sticking her thumb in in her mouth. The panel glowed blue and the wall next to the panels slid open. She dashed though and the wall behind her closed abruptly.

She was now in another room roughly the size of the last. This time here was what appeared to be a locked door on the far wall. After trying a few simple 'open' spells to no avail she searched the room. She saw nothing obvious and so then proceeded to cast several reviling and searching spells. It took a while but she was able to find a key which was invisible. After dispelling the invisibility spell on the key she was then able to simply open the door.

In the next room which again looked much like the last two apart from there was an open door in the far wall. However there was a Manus hovering in front of the door. It looked like same one that tried to eat her soul when she tried to save Grabiner. She remembered that she was protected from it by the Grabiner family name and so relaxed a little. The Manus was a genie like otherworld creature; blue with horns, adorned with jewellery and no legs, it floated in the air smiling.

'Lady Grabiner. I have two riddles for you.' it spoke in a deep rumbling voice. 'You must solve them both correctly in order to pass. The first riddle is thus; I'm all about, but cannot be seen. I can be captured, but not held. I have no throat, but can be heard, what am I?'

Rosanna just stared at him perplexed. The riddle ran over and over in her head.

'Eh can I perhaps ask you to give me the answer being your master is my husband?' she asked the Manus. It gave out a deep throaty laugh.

'No, you cannot order me to do anything. Think yourself lucky I am not allowed to devour you –or sadly any students for now.'

'There's no time limit for this right?' she said as she sat down on the floor cross-legged.

'No there is no time limit.' It crossed its armed and looked somewhat bored. Rosanna fell silent thinking about the riddle and the answer popped into her head like a light was switched on.

'The answer is 'the wind' right?'

Magical Diary Merits

'Correct.' The Manus replied; 'I Never was, am always to be. No one ever saw me, nor ever will and yet I am the confidence of all to leave and breather on this terrestrial ball. What am I?'

Rosanna looked at the Manus with complete confusion and distress, She had absolutely no idea what that riddle was about. She calmed her mind before trying to figure it out. She ruled out many different things from animals, occupations and emotions. She was sat still quite a while until the Manus spoke up; 'Lady Grabiner do you give up?'

'No! No, I can get this I know I can.' She sighed frustrated and fell back into her silence. It was a little while before she spoke up again.

'Well I'm going to have to guess with what I think is right. My guess is..' She hesitated but continued; 'Tomorrow'?'

The Manus looked at her with a blank expression before nodding.

'Correct. You may pass on to your last Puzzle.' He moved out of the way as Rosanna got up relieved that she has gotten it right and walked through the door and into the next room.

This room had no doors, nothing obvious on the walls or floor but is had a really right ceiling and she could make out a trap door at the top. This is a bloody Oubliette! She shook her head in dismay and cast an 'open' spell at the trap door. It swung open with ease. Right, now to figure out a way of getting out of here, I don't know any levitating spells yet and a teleport spell will probably not work being teleporting out of the dungeons was against the exam rules.

After having another look around the room she spotted a large pile of rocks in a corner of the room. She decided to use 'stoneshape' to change the rock pile to form a makeshift ladder up to the trap door exit. This took a fair amount of concentration and she had to keep focus on the spell as climbed the ladder to make sure it kept its shape but she was soon able to reach the top and was able to get out of the dungeon without harm.

Blinking in the sunlight Professor Potsdam congratulated her on passing the exam and awarded Rosanna ten merits. Rosanna headed back to the dorms looking forward to a hot shower and a long rest.

Monday evening was the night of the Halloween feast and dance. They had the following day off so the students could enjoy the event and stay up past curfew. The feast was delicious and the dance was more fantastic than last year. The dance was held in compete darkness; this was because the spirits of the dead also attended the dance but did not wish to be seen with mortal eyes. The music was racy and loud. Despite not being able to see anything and bumping into various people throughout the evening it was fun and novel. Rosanna was sure she could almost feel the spirits around her though she wasn't sure if it was her imagination or not. Part way through the evening there was a loud bang and a blinding flash of light. After a round of confusion and discussions between the students Professor potsdam gave a short speech saying that everything was fine and that the dance could continue, a freshman student had foolishly tried to cast a spell to try and see the spirits that then became angry and lashed out at that student. She urged the rest of them not to try this themselves. The rest of the night went uneventfully and they were reassured that the student wasn't particularly injured.

Hi, Here is a guide on how to get the hidden achievement “From the Jaws of Victory” & “Doing It Wrong”. if you have any problem, Let me know.

From the Jaws of Victory

in order to get the “from the jaws of victory” achievement, you need to fail the final exam while you already have at least -40 demerits. this will put you over the expulsion limit — however, because the year is already over, they cant simply send you home as normal. so a special ending will trigger.

its not as easy to end with exactly the right number of demerits as you might think, but with proper planning it should go smoothly. so, heres everything you need to know to do it.

Gaining Back Your Merits

an easy way to boost your merits is, of course, to do work around the school in exchange. there are 3 ways to do this – however, you can only do 2 in one playthrough.

  • Gardening with Donald – william will tell you about this opportunity in exchange for your agreement to help him with ellen. you may need to have the “scheming” personality in order for him to do so, as i have yet to play a game without it. alternatively, telling potsdam youre interested when she asks may lead to the same result.
  • Sorting Rocks – if you still have demerits when you speak to minnie in the library the saturday after the exam, when she offers you help, she can give you this task herself.
  • Making Candles with Donald and Luke – later in the year; if you see donald in the library, ask him what hes doing and he will tell you about this task. just remember to say yes when he comes around later to invite you to some mysterious activity! if you miss him in the library, he may invite you anyway.

each of those tasks will give you 10 merits, for a total of +20 in one run. which means you then have to lose -60 on the exams, which is an easier task to manage — you can just fail 6. but that wont be quite enough; if you succeed on the remaining exam, youll gain +5 merits and be just shy of flunking out.

an alternative is to skip the merit tasks and just pass 2 exams, which will give you exactly the right number of demerits. this is the simplest way to do it.

Passing — but the wrong way [“Doing It Wrong” achievement]

just to overcomplicate things even more — it is possible to finish an exam without gaining or losing any merits. if you go about it this way, youd need to fail 4 exams and then complete 3 without merits.

the way you do this is by completing the dungeon without casting a single spell. you can do this for almost every exam, and itll also get you the “You’re Doing it Wrong” achievement. so, if you want to knock out two birds with one stone, you might as well give it a shot.

Dungeons you can beat without magic:

  • exam 2: poison gas. all you need to do is have 41 or higher strength, and you can walk right through.
  • exam 4: bladen beast. youll need a fair bit of luck for this one, and its a good idea to go in with high strength as youll be taking a few hits. all you need to do is lure the beast away from the exit and then book it to the stairs. however, youll need to pass the darkness tile, which may take a few tries. if the beast catches up, switch darkness tiles to throw him off until you get it right.
  • exam 5: lava floor. youll need at least 61 strength to tank the damage and 30 smart to prevent the dog from attacking you, but if you go all in on strength you can still get through if youre not smart enough. just walk directly to your prize and back.
  • exam 6: frog race. this is by far the easiest one. all you have to do is find the chalice before he does. if you get to the gate, wait for him to unlock it and just head on in. it does take a bit of luck to get through a random maze, however, so you might want to save first.

Dungeons you CANT beat without magic:

  • the 1st exam. theres no way out without magic. HOWEVER: you can still fail this one without losing any merits. just select “detention” when grabiner asks you why you gave up. hell give you one, and no demerits.
  • the 3rd exam*. youd need to either get over the pits with teleport/long jump, or find and activate the teleport circle with trigger/spirit echoes. then youll still need to find the exit using breeze/inspect/truesight. just fail this one.

*unless youre ellen

there is one special case:
the 7th exam, with the mothmen and the monkeys, can be beaten without magic provided you have high enough strength and get lucky enough for the mothmen to chase you instead of the monkey. however, even if you do this, you will still get merits for some reason. i guess walking through the mana zapper counts as “casting a spell”?

if youre going for the “fail 4 exams, cheese through the other 3” method, my recommendation is:
-1st exam: just fail and then take the detention
-2nd exam: no luck involved, all you need to do is get your strength to a reasonable level
-6th exam: definitely the easiest to get through this way

Your final challenge

once youve made it to the final exam with at least -40 demerits, youre home free! all thats left to do is fail the final.

the fastest way to do this, if you have attack spells, is to just attack whichever one of your team has the lowest health. he wont even fight back. watch the hope crumble in his eyes as his dearest friend turns on him in his hour of need.

or you could go find one of the monsters to either beat you into submission or drain your mana until you can hit “give up”. draining your own or teammates mana with spells will work too.
